This is my first official trek into the blogosphere. I hope to fill this blog with information that is helpful, inspiring or (at least) entertaining! Let’s start wtih a little bit about myself…

My name is Daniel Kainer. I have been a professor at Lone Star College-Montgomery for fifteen years and have served as the director of the Lone Star College Biotechnology Institute for the past eight years. My Ph.D. (Cell Biology) was from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, my Master’s degree (Microbiology) was from Texas Tech University and my two bachelor’s degrees (Psychology and Philosophy) were from the University of Houston.

I have been passionate about science my entire life and never wanted to do anything else besides being a scientist. What I never expected was how much I love teaching and I feel abundantly blessed in that I actually get paid to talk about science for a living! Better still, I have the honor of being able to supervise amazing undergraduate research projects and, in so doing, get to interact with some of the most intelligent and creative people that I have ever met! Because I run a biotechnology program, I “inherit” students who have already decided that they love science and I don’t have to convince them about how amazing it is! Because we have authentic research projects available to students at an earlier educational stage than most people have an opportunity to participate in, their passion for science powers some incredible efforts towards scientific discovery and technological innovation.
